Rupert, Dave, Feven and Anesia came together as a result of the Stew Jams- a monthly, improvised music night that occurs in Vancouver at the Red Gate Arts society. All of them are a part of the Stew Collective, but meet together as a band to practice and perform Rupert's songs.
United by a love for musical traditions rooted in Blues and Jazz, All of them improvise well together, and are known to start shows with live freestyles involving dance, melodic vocal runs, and rap.
Anesia usually gets a feel for Rupert's songs by listening to the demo, or getting a vibe off a live session. She brings a lot of emotion to the songs, often adding expression with her use of symbals, or catching a groove with the snare and bass. Her rhythmic ideas and overall nonjudgmental attitude give Rupert a lot of space in which to feel the moment .
Given some simple chord changes, Dave creates pretty-much spontaneous fills which compliment Rupert's sparse, rhythmic progressions. With extensive experience playing in multiple genres, he manages to bring the necessary funk to Rupert's otherwise, folky and laid back tunes.
Feven is a multi-instrumentalist and adept bass player. With a keen ear for freaky rock music and an ability to play trumpet lines for Jazz standards she brings a well-informed and out-the-box approach to the group.
